After some random Craigslist perusing it seems that finding a clean, reasonably priced MR2 of E30 is no easy task.

I can show you a bunch of clean E30’s but you wont like the price haha. I’m not surprised about the MR2’s either, they are super sweet but I don’t think I’ve seen a clean one outside of a show or magazine since the were new.

I also went SW20 hunting the other day with the same conclusion.

People want way to much for even the less desirable trim levels on the E30s.

The Mr2 was a car I really wanted to buy instead of my Miata, but I just couldn’t find NA cars that had been taken care of and were well priced.

Yeap, it’s silly and unfortunate.

On local craigslist, there’s a rough looking shell going for 4k.

I saw a clean MR2 of the second gen last year. Guy was a car guy and an odd bird, though, of the “used to make custom bikes”, “used to own an El Camino”, and so on type.

Yep, there’s a yellow one for sale up in the hills near me... lambo door hinge mod, assorted other mods, comes with bottle of oil behind the passenger seat

Thats a laugh. Don’t understand why people ask for those kind of numbers.

At least decent E30’s are still somewhat affordable... unlike the #PorscheBubble. Look at what people are asking for scrap steel that has a Porsche badge on it...

There is a motor that goes with it (i think) but you have to put it in.

Have you made an offer on any of them? Maybe someone will bite.

I just found three SW20s in the Boston area for under 5k (before you get excited, they aren’t good):
One for 3300 that actually looks really nicely sorted...but it’s an automatic.
A turbo for 2700. Ad says “Just needs a wiring harness!” Umm...
An NA for 4200, ad says “From AZ, no rust”, but the interior is routed and the paint has clearly been in the sun for two decades.
Then there are three guys selling built turbos who all want 10-15k.
There is one franken-E30 in Connecticut though, that caught my eye: http://hartford.craigslist.org/cto/5349338871…

Define decently priced? Depending on where you look, a clean SW20 can be had for not too much.

Not looking to buy, was just curious if things changed. At looked at buying one of these cars about 2 years ago but ended up with my Miata.

The turbo Mr2s are almost always in better shape.

Im not in the market, was just curious. Two summers ago I had a list of 4 cars and I was going to buy one of them. I ended up with a Miata because of what I mentioned above. Usually what I see is a price that reflects the mileage but not one that also reflects the current condition of the car.

Craigslist is not the place I would want to deal with if I had a car like that to sell. All sorts of crazies, and people who might just as well shoot you as anything... and lots of low-ball offers, or insane trade offers... web bots, and who knows what all else.
I would try enthusiast forums or just putting a sign in the car’s window locally, and even at that, I bet they don’t last long on the market.

Gotcha, yeah the guy I bought my first MR2 from had bought it as it was slightly larger than a Miata. The thing that sucks about MR2’s is they are expensive for a really good one, but if you aren’t on any MR2 or Toyota specific sale pages or forums, you won’t see them.
